Report by Sally Ann Jones
On Saturday 22nd March, Michael Vallance set out to show 15 English teachers that Hyperstudio is in fact more suitable for use in English Language lessons than the ubiquitous PowerPoint. Michael started by using the analogy of a library card catalogue stack in which cards are linked, in this case hyperlinked, to conceptualise the software.

Then after a very quick familiarisation with the Mac Lab, the Mac graphical interface and optical mouse, we followed Michael through a demonstration Hyperstudio model in which text, sound, graphics, animation and movie clips were added to a series of linked cards.

Finally, teachers created their own card for use in an English language lesson. We were particularly impressed by Siti Rosminah¡¯s card for vocabulary development. The session ended with Michael describing the work done at Canberra Primary school and on the PRC Programme at NIE as well as directing us to websites containing sample eportfolios. All of which showed what can be done with Hyperstudio in the language classroom.
