Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

ELLTA(S) encourages members to form Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of those with specialist research interests (for instance, Mentoring Beginning Teachers and Bookmark are the three existing SIGs). Each SIG requires a minimum of 10 members and a convenor. The SIG can be registered each year with the ELLTA(S) Executive Committee through Maha Sripathy.

Maha welcomes expressions of interest from any ELLTA(S) member who would like to form an SIG. Continuing SIGs need to re-register each year. Information about each SIG is included in the ELLTA(S) website and is updated annually. This information includes a statement of aims, membership lists, address list, convenors, and research interests. SIGs can be formed by parents and teachers alike.

Examples of possible SIGs include:

o       Mentoring Beginning Teachers

o       Reading Remediation

o       Using Lit in the Lang classroom

o       Speech and Pronunciation

For avid readers and teachers of literature from 'The Hungry Caterpillar' to 'Romeo and Juliet'.

ELLTA(S) is forming 'Bookmark', an SIG specifically focused on the teaching of Literature and we would like to invite you to join us. You would be warmly welcomed whether you are an experienced teacher or an enthusiastic entrant to the profession. We hope to organize meetings in which teachers can exchange ideas and approaches as well as generate and publish materials for use in the classroom. Members will also be able to enjoy talks by literature specialists as well as the opportunity to discuss issues and concerns relevant to the teaching of literature. Why not come along and see for yourself? For further details please email Maha Sripathy. We look forward to hearing from you.
